After a long winter spent under the covers watching Netflix, we need all the sun we can get. And because last winter also included copious amounts of caramel-stuffed chocolate-chip cookies, it’s time to get moving. Here are the best outdoor workouts on the East End, from balancing BOSU balls on the beach to paddleboard yoga on the bay.
Yoga flow, core conditioning and HIIT classes will be offered throughout the summer at this Hamptons fitness studio’s new Sole East pop-up. If you’re looking to get out on the water, Elements Fitness also has Stand Up Paddle, which takes place on East Hampton beaches and bays.
ERIKA BLOOM PILATES
OK, you officially have no excuses: Erika Bloom makes house calls, offering one-on-one beach, pool or backyard training whenever it works for you. The workout is Pilates-based, but expect to work with props like BOSU balls and to do extra intervals for fat melting and calorie torching.
PUNCH FITNESS CENTER
When Drew Barrymore and Dylan Lauren need an intense workout, they make a beeline for Punch. The multi-studio brand just launched a new outdoor workout, which includes an hour of nonstop planks, squats, burpees, mountain climbers, jumping rope, push-ups, resistance bands, weighted bands, sprinting and sparring with a trainer. Phew, we need a nap just reading about it.
This class is tried and true: Jimmy Minardi has been running his (extremely sweaty) workout on Main Beach in East Hampton for the past 15 years. Be prepared for a challenge as Minardi takes full advantage of the uneven sandy surface to push you to your limits.
GURNEY’S MONTAUK RESORT & SEAWATER SPA
The resort hotel has teamed up with Paddle Diva Watersports to offer stand-up paddling, surfing, boogie boarding and body surfing on its gorgeous private beach. If exercising on dry land is more your style, there’s Spinning on a deck overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, beach yoga and a variety of pop-up classes from Bari Studio, Y7 Studio and DanceBody. There are so many options, it’s like a workout salad bar.
Led by former professional rugby player Michael Bunce Jr., Southampton’s CrossFit 11968 holds outdoor boot-camp classes three times a week at Little PlainsBeach. We highly recommend an espresso before tackling this no-nonsense 8 a.m. class.
SILICH CORE + STRENGTH
Using TRX suspension training, the studio holds outdoor workouts for up to tenpeople. Their TRX workout is combined with ab moves, plyometric drills, medicine balls and resistance bands. Let’s just say there’s a reason the students in this picture are using big towels.
THE SURF LODGE
The Montauk hot spot has teamed up with top studios and instructors like The Class by Taryn Toomey, Xtend Barre, Anna Kaiser, Akin Akman and Elena Brower to offer everything from outdoor Pilates to meditation held on the outdoor deck.

Unwind at this daily outdoor yoga class led by a rotating roster of instructorsat Wölffer’s breathtaking vineyard. The best part: You can grab a glass of wine at the end.
BODY TECH FIT
Stuck in a fitness rut? This boot camp with kettle bells, agility ladders and power sleds will snap you right out of it.
Ready for the most fun thing you’ll do all summer? Try a stand-up paddleboard yoga class in Sag Harbor. (Falling off your board is inevitable, but after this full-body workout in the hot sun, you’ll be begging to go swimming.)
